Healthy Shopping List – Fat Burning Foods

When going to the store, it is always a smart thing to know what you are planning to buy as you continue along your Lean Strong Body journey.

As you begin to see positive results and changes in your body, you are going to discover that you will grow accustomed to eating the same things in different ways!

The healthy shopping list below will help you when going to the store!

This is what I normally buy when I go to the store.

I normally shop at my local Costco and natural health food store.

Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts

You can do so many different things with chicken breasts. Throw them on your George Foreman Grill, and eat one of them with a cup of brown rice with a side of guacamole and some crushed red pepper. You could also cut up the meat and make mini taco’s out of them with some lettuce, salsa and a little bit of grated cheese.

Lean Ground Turkey

With lean ground turkey, you could make your very own turkey burgers with a combination of your favorite spices, and eat it with a side of brown rice and a green drink for an amazing meal!

Turkey Burgers (frozen)

When I am not in the mood to cook my own turkey burgers from scratch, I like to pick up the frozen turkey burgers from Costco (Kirkland brand). These are really easy to make because you are able to throw them on the george foreman grill with your favorite spices, and in 6 minutes it is done! Add your favorite brown rice and some guacamole and you have yourself one awesome meal!

Tuna (light chunk – in water)

Tuna is one of those amazing foods that provides so many good things I don’t know where to start. One of my favorite fat burning meals that I like to make is a can of tuna, with a tbsp of mayo, one cup of brown rice, and some crushed red pepper mixed around. This takes about 5 minutes to make and it is so so good. If you don’t want to use mayo, you can also use a tablespoon of guacamole as a substitute.

Salmon fillets (wild + frozen)

Salmon is another one of my favorite foods. I like to throw it on my george foreman grill and pair it with a cup of brown rice with some crushed red pepper thrown in. It is so satisfying, and really good for you with all the omega oils and fatty acids that actually help your body release fat!

Salmon burgers (sometimes)

When I am not in the mood to cook a salmon fillet, I like to cheat a little bit and just throw on a salmon burger. I typically buy the brand that Costco has at the time. You can pair one of these salmon burgers with a cup of brown rice for a wonderful meal.

Organic eggs

Every single day for the most part I like to start off my morning with three scrambled eggs with my breakfast. This is a great protein source that helps your body burn fat, and the best way to prepare it is to use coconut oil to grease the pan, along with some crushed red pepper on top to spice it up a bit!

Unsweetened almond milk (occasionally – it depends on how I am feeling at the time)

One of the foods I eat occasionally depending on what I am doing for workouts is protein shakes. When making the shakes I like to use unsweetened almond milk. It just goes down easier and is far more satisfying.


Almonds are a great edition to any meal to add in more healthy fats for your body. You can also make your own almond butter if you have one of my favorite machines called the NutriBullet. Brown rice

Brown rice is one of my staple whole grain healthy carbs that I add to meals. At Costco they have a product with 8 bags of rice in them, and by popping one of the bags into the microwave for 3 minutes you have 2 full cups of rice to use for any meal you make. It is so easy and so yummy!

Almond butter (sometimes)

When I don’t want to make my own almond butter, I typically buy the brand that they have at Costco. I prefer almond butter to peanut butter because I feel like the nut is “healthier” and the taste is way better. One of the things I like to do with almond butter is add a tablespoon or more to a meal (lunch or dinner).


I love avocados for the main reason that they taste good, are easy to cook with, and are incredibly healthy for you with all the healthy fats and omega oils that help your body release fat. I like to use avocados when making my tuna, or as a wonderful edition to my tacos. If you are up for it, you could also make some of your own guacamole!

Guacamole (Wholly Guacamole brand)

When I am not up for making my own guacamole with avocados, I like to purchase it pre-made. It makes it easier on me, and it is easier to store in the freezer. The Wholly Guacamole brand is a perfect solution for this.


Before I eat my eggs in the morning, I make sure to eat 1/2 of a grapefruit. I do this because grapefruit has been shown to help your body release fat. This is big is because the stuff that makes a grapefruit “bitter” helps your body burn fat for energy instead of carbs. This creates a wonderful thermogenic effect in your body to always stay lean! I typically eat the other 1/2 at lunch.


Spinach is one of the staple items I always buy when going to the store because it is probably one of the healthiest veggies that you can feed yourself. I like to use my spinach in my NutriBlasts with the NutriBullet (see link above). I typically have a NutriBullet with every meal so I am alway making sure I am getting my veggie fill for the day!

Blueberries, Blackberries, Strawberries, Bananas, Raw Broccoli, Baby Carrots

I like to use all of these items in my Nutriblasts.

Below is a list of items that I only have to buy every so often because they come in a quantity that lasts a long time!

Green tea

In the morning when eating breakfast I always start off with my eggs, grapefruit, NutriBlast, and green tea. Green tea has been shown to help your body burn more fat and provide some great health benefits as well!

Coconut oil (spray)

I use coconut oil to grease the pan for my eggs every morning. It is a healthier oil to use, and has a high smoke point.

Flax seeds

I like to use these in my NutriBlasts

Pistachios (Wonderful brand)

I like to eat these during my final meal of the day. They taste really good and are so good for you. I like to buy the ones that are already peeled from their shell.

Macadamia nuts

I like to buy the brand that Costco carries, and typically eat them with my last meal if I am not feeling like pistachios that night.

Crushed red pepper

This is a staple item that I have grown to love. After doing some research, I found out that the “spicy” response in your mouth activates the same places in your brain that trigger “sugar.” I basically put it on everything now so my cravings for sugar have substantially decreased! Spicy foods also help raise your metabolism which I am definitely not complaining about!

Other spices

I have some other spices that I like to cook with that I pick up occasionally when I am out.

Cacao nibs

I like to use these in my protein shake sometimes. These are great because they are the things that are the “root” of dark chocolate. Because dark chocolate has been shown to help your body burn fat, adding these to a protein shake is a perfect combination!


I rarely ever use it, but when I do it is in my tuna when I don’t want to use guacamole or avocado.

Spelt bread (purchase from Berlin Natural Bakery)

Spelt is a special type of grain that is a “slow releasing carb.” What that means is that it is slow to get into the blood stream due to the high amount of fiber and nutrients in the bread. I love using this product with my turkey burgers occasionally when I am out of brown rice! You are going to absolutely love this bread!

Ceylon cinnamon (buy it on amazon)

Another thing that I like to throw into my protein shake occasionally is ceylon cinnamon. Because cinnamon has been shown to help your body burn more fat it is a great addition to add to any protein shake you make!

Here is a list of other items I buy occasionally depending on what I want to make for food that month.

Corn Tortillas, Lettuce, Salsa, Grated Cheese

All of these items typically are used when I make tacos with my boneless skinless chicken breasts.

So there you have it! This is my entire shopping list that I rarely ever veer off from. I love how I look, what I eat, and how I feel every single day I get up. By incorporating my NutriBullet into my meals, I have noticed an increase in energy and vitality I have never experienced before, so that has been a big plus!
